Get Involved We need men and women called of God to work with international seafarers to help us expand this ministry. We need bus/van drivers (no CDL required), ship visitors, and hosts/coordinators at the center. This is a chance to do international missions without leaving Charleston and without learning another language (most of the sailors speak English rather well). If you are interested, please click on the "Contact Us" link below to learn more. Ship Visitors This is a major part of our ministry. We go aboard the ships to take magazines, New Testaments, and phone cards to the sailors. This is often the first impression the sailors have of our ministry. Some of the best conversations occur on board the ships, especially during break times. Bus/Van Drivers This is exactly what it sounds like. Those who may be concerned about their ability to climb the gangways to the ships can volunteer to drive the sailors from their ships to the shopping areas and back. This helps the ship visitors by freeing them to visit other ships. Hospitality/Coordinator This position is for those who do not feel comfortable driving vans or climbing gangways. We need volunteers to host the sailors who wish to visit the center. This frees the visitors/drivers to visit or transport sailors from other ships. When there are no sailors at the center, the host may wish to clean/organize the supplies at the center. A critical part of this position is to keep a log of requests for transportation from the ships and to pass this information to the visitors/drivers to ensure that we can keep our promises. Shifts We are open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. As such, we ask volunteers to consider working one of the following shifts. Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Shift 1 - 10:00 - 3:30 Shift 2 - 2:30 - 8:00 Volunteers are welcome to work 1 shift per month or 1 per week or as many shifts as they want. If you cannot work these shift times, but are available on a different schedule, contact us to let us know. |
